Bat news and our move to the Reading Rooms

This Sunday (28th June) and onwards, services will take place in the reading room as work is beginning on our roofing project.
Last Thursday the ecology team saw more bats and with the help of their thermal cameras they could identify more species. The pipistrelle soprano as before, together with myotis (or mouse eared bats) and brown long eared bats. Quite a diverse population as reflects our community. All using the roof and more particularly the various openings in the roof for day roosts.
But the team are satisfied that there is no evidence of a colony or maternity roost. That means that the works to the roof can commence as planned once we have our bat license which is imminent.
We expect to be out of the Church for 5 months, but the contractors will be able to give us a more accurate timescale when they have taken the roof off. During this time, I’m sure issues will arise, but we shall overcome these in true Birtles fashion!
